Hello Pumpkin, Let's March For Change.

SECS started of this semester with a bang!

On September 19th, 19 students from SECS meet at The Y and departed on their 835 mile journey to Brooklyn, New York for the Peoples Climate March. We arrived in Brooklyn around 12am Saturday morning, and after getting a few hours of much needed sleep we explored the city and had the opportunity to visit various workshops. Saturday night at 8pm a video was projected onto the UN building as a pre-march rally

On the day of the march we all met up around 10am, pilled our stuff in the cars and rode the subway to our starting point in Manhattan. As we made our way closer to Manhattan each subway stop was packed with people trying to get to the march. As the subway started to fill up the sense excitement and anticipation in the atmosphere grew. When we finally arrived at our stop at 72nd street we were meet by an entire block full of people, all who would be marching with us.

Although we arrived at 72nd street around 11:30 our block didn't start moving until around one. After about 2 hours of marching we had just made it to the very starting point of the front line of the march, on 65th street. While some of us continued to march others started their journey back home and by 3 pm Monday all had arrived back home, inspired and safe.

SECS also had our first official social at the Curtis Apple Orchard, with some members of Bikeface, Saturday, October 4th. We spent the day among the various rows of apples, drinking apple cider, eating donuts, exploring the pumpkin patch and petting the goats. Although the weather was a little on the chilly side, a good time was had by all, and Drew was able to eat a total of 8 apples, impressively breaking last years record.
